| What is the 'Montessori method'? |
| The Montessori philosophy is built upon the idea that children develop and think differently than adults. As an educational approach, the Montessori method's focus is on the individuality of each child, respecting their needs or talents as opposed to the needs of the class as a whole. A goal is to help the child maintain his or her natural joy of learning. The Montessori method encourages independence and freedom with limits and responsibility. |

| Maria Montessori (August 31, 1870 – May 6, 1952) was an Italian physician, educator, philosopher and humanitarian; she is best known for her philosophy and method of education of children from birth to adolescence.
